What you would be doing

As the Payroll Officer, you could be doing any of the following: 

  • Processing pay runs  
  • End to end payroll functions on weekly, fort-nightly, and monthly basis
  • Review existing processes and make recommendations on improvements 
  • Assist with payroll calculations and advisory  
  • Assist with payroll budgets and forecasts 
  • Assist with ad-hoc administration work 

Who are we looking for?

We’re interested in hearing from people with two or more years’ experience as an Payroll Officer but more importantly, we need enthusiastic professionals who are excellent communicators, have a keen eye for detail, and the ability to juggle workloads and deadlines without breaking a sweat. Ideally, you should have the following experience:

  • Two or more years’ experience in payroll
  • Experience in running end to end payroll processes
  • Have competent knowledge of the holidays act, PAYE and income tax
  • Exposure to a selection of widely used payroll systems

Responsibilities:

• Processing month-end general journals and assisting with month-end close and reporting

• Assisting and preparing monthly balance sheet reconciliations

• Monthly stocktake reconciliation

• Reconciling revenue and cost data between the accounting and operating systems

• Preparing daily sales invoices and entering pricing from sales order documents

• Following up on unfinalised items for growers weekly payments

• Reconciling monthly freight invoices to load documentation

• Providing backup to reception when required

• Ad hoc duties supporting the wider finance team

Requirements:

• 3+ years experience in accounts and administration

About us

The National Rural Health Alliance Ltd is Australia's peak non-government body for rural and remote health. The Alliance works closely with its 44 member organisations [link removed] to achieve better health outcomes for people living in rural and remote Australia.

The role

Reporting to the Chief Executive Officer, the Finance Officer manages and reports on the financial systems and operations relating to the Alliance and its cost centres. This includes: managing financial records; preparing and paying staff salaries;  keeping accurate records of personnel files including salaries, leave entitlements and superannuation contributions; preparing and lodging all ATO obligations including PAYG, IAS, BAS, FBT and Payment Summaries; preparing and presenting financial reports to the Finance, Audit and Risk Management Committee; and undertaking some office manager roles such as finalising rental agreements and dealing with repairs and maintenance issues.

Selection criteria: Essential

  1. Experience as a finance officer for an organisation of this size (approximately 12 staff and $2-3 million annual budget).
  2. Experience with MYOB.
  3. Experience with human resources including managing staff payroll, superannuation, leave, ensuring obligations are met under the Fair Work Act, and dealing with sensitive staffing matters if they arise.
  4. An understanding of the regulatory and legislative environment in which the Alliance operates (including reporting obligations to the Australian Taxation Office, Australian Charities and Not-for-profits Commission, Australian Securities and Investments Commission, etc).
  5. Experience interpreting financial information and communicating it to different audiences (eg to the CEO, the Board, to reporting bodies, to the public).
  6. Well-developed written and oral communication skills.

Selection criteria: Desirable

  1. Experience in the not-for-profit sector and/or in a membership-based organisation.
  2. Experience managing finances for large events, such as the biennial National Rural Health Conferences.

This role requires high level organisational skills and attention to detail. Equally, the successful candidate will be able to prioritise their workload to manage time effectively and achieve outcomes within agreed timeframes. Excellent computer skills are essential.

The position offers a generous annual salary, salary sacrifice/salary packaging (full PBI status) and 10.5% employer superannuation contributions.

The Role

This role will suit a motivated and high-performing management accountant who is able to work independently and has strong attention to detail. The right person will be able to confidently engage with various stakeholders.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Assist and prepare monthly financial accounting journals, work papers and reconciliations.
  • Financial reporting for various projects.
  • Month end reporting.
  • Supporting the CFO office and carry out adhoc duties as required.

The person

The ideal person will be an experienced person with proven Australian work experience in an accounting environment. You will have excellent attention to detail, possess good organisational skills and be a quick learner.   • Hold a current driver’s license.
  • Be willing to undergo a police check and apply for a working with vulnerable people card.
