Working within the Business Advisory division, the primary focus of this role is to provide a range of accounting solutions to our clients. Responding to client queries, providing advice, preparing statements and management reporting this is a rewarding and challenging role that will see you progress into the next phase of your career with solid training, support and technical exposure.

Specific Duties Include

  • Preparation of income tax returns and advice
  • Preparation of full set of accounts
  • Construct and maintain working papers
  • Prepare cashflow statements
  • Delegation and review of work to develop your supervisory skills.

About the Organisation

The Central Land Council (CLC) is the Commonwealth Government statutory authority for the southern half of the Northern Territory - covering an area of almost 770,000 square kilometres. The Council consists of 90 elected Aboriginal representatives, from the communities within CLC's 9 regions, and an additional 260 staff, approximately half of which are Aboriginal.

Together they are are responsible for providing a range of services for the benefit of traditional owners and other Aboriginal residents of the CLC region, including:

  • Providing a strong voice for the Aboriginal people of Central Australia;
  • Helping Aboriginal people get back country and manage their land, protecting Aboriginal culture and sacred sites;
  • Consulting with landowners on mining activity, employment, development and other land use proposals;
  • Fighting for legal recognition of Aboriginal people's rights;
  • Helping resolve land disputes, native title claims and compensation cases; and
  • Running the permit system for visitors to Aboriginal land.  

About the Opportunity

Due to internal promotion, The Central Land Council is looking for an experienced Accountant to join their team in Alice Springs, NT, on a full-time ongoing basis.

Reporting to the Financial Controller, you'll have an overarching responsibility for the management of the Central Land Council's Land Use Trust Account.

Your key responsibilities will include (but will not be limited to):

  • Reconciling, reporting and reviewing the Land Use Trust Account;
  • Checking and authorising EFT and cheque payments from Operations and Land Use Trust Accounts;
  • Ensuring the accuracy of payroll records prior to the authorisation of payments, in conjunction with the payroll team;
  • Processing invoices and receipt monies into the land use trust ledger in accordance with management agreements;
  • Maintaining a register of resolutions and articles of agreements for payment; and
  • Liaising with other CLC departments to assist them with the timely and accurate processing of financial data.

Reporting to the Senior Manager Corporate Finance, the Manager Financial Planning and Analysis consolidates and analyses financial data that informs Power and Water strategy development, including overseeing forecasts and financial reports, development of key performance indicators and financial modelling.

The successful candidate will need to extensive experience in accounting within a commercial environment, and significant experience in the coordination and preparation of complex budgets and analysis of financial metrics including ability to interpret and successfully communicate financial results to a wide range of stakeholders including the Executive Leadership and the Department of Treasury and Finance.

Operating within a fast paced Government Owned Corporation, the successful candidate will possess strong interpersonal skills, negotiation and mediation skills and is able to collaborate with both internal and external stakeholders.  Proven skills in leading successful teams and building a culture of engagement, continuous improvement and high performance is also necessary.

Relevant experience in a utility or similar environment, along with post graduate qualifications in a related discipline complemented by Chartered Accountant or Certified Practicing Accountant membership is highly desired.

The role will work within the Stores Team, managing the full financial process for a group of Stores. You will be responsible for all transactions through to Management Reporting, including data entry, reconciliations, month end processes and preparation and presentation of End of Quarter reports.  Your exceptional communication skills combined with your conscientious approach will see you liaise with other members of the organisation to ensure that your reports are presented accurately and on time.

A minimum of 2 years’ experience in a similar role is a prerequisite to your consideration for this position.
