Education Services Australia (ESA) delivers products and services for a range of clients including the Australian government, State and Territory education jurisdictions, statutory authorities and a variety of not-for- profit and government organisations.

The Digital Services area manages the design, delivery and promotion of a portfolio of online subscription based products and services. The current portfolio includes the Schools Catalogue Information Service (SCIS), which supplies bibliographic records to school libraries and services across Australia, New Zealand and United Kingdom.

The SCIS cataloguing team create over 4,000 new bibliographic and authority records per month. These records are of a high quality, adhering consistently to the SCIS Standards developed to meet the needs to school libraries. With approximately 10, 000 subscribing schools world-wide, SCIS is a proud advocate for school libraries.

The role

We are looking for an experienced Cataloguer to join our team and be responsible for cataloguing, authority work and database maintenance services for our SCIS product.

  • You will be required to do original and copy cataloguing of resources in various formats including books, DVDs, CDs, electronic resources, maps, music and websites, in accordance with SCIS Standards for Catalogue and Data Entry
  • Create authority records for names and subject headings in accordance with SCIS Standards for Catalogue and Data Entry
  • Review own bibliographic and authority records added to the SCIS database to ensure consistency with SCIS standards and guidelines
  • Answer enquiries and respond to suggestions from SCIS customers and suppliers
  • Contribute to initiatives and improvements in cataloguing practice and processes
  • Perform administrative tasks associated with cataloguing work flows and processes standards and database maintenance.

About you

  • Highly organised, pro-active person, with strong attention to detail, high-level interpersonal skills and committed to quality service delivery
  • Previous experienced in original cataloguing, copy cataloguing and authority work in an integrated library management system such as Koha and Voyager
  • Demonstrated understanding of RDA and MARC
  • Skilled in subject analysis and the application of subject metadata
  • Proficient in assigning Full and Abridged DDC numbers using WebDewey
  • Proven ability to create catalogue records at target rates
  • Knowledge or experience working in school libraries, curriculum and teaching standards are desirable
  • Previous experience dealing helping customers via email or phone is desirable.

About the role

Responsible for the delivery and assessment of quality vocational education and training (VET) programs.

  • plan, prepare, deliver and assess training programs;

  • conduct internal and external contractual audits; and
  • coordinate and participate in the evaluation of student reading and learning resources.

About you

To be considered for this position, you will have demonstrated:

  • a Certificate IV in Training and Assessment or a diploma or higher level qualification in adult education;
  • experience as a VET Electrical Teacher and the ability to plan, prepare, deliver and assess Electrical training programs;
  • current vocational skills and A Grade Electrical License preferred;
  • exemplary communication and interpersonal skills; and
  • ability to effectively utilise online learning platforms and technologies.

The successful applicant will undertake research in the laboratory of Dr Nichollas Scott within the Department of Microbiology and Immunology, School of Biomedical Sciences, Faculty of Medicine, Dentistry and Health Sciences at the Doherty Institute, University of Melbourne.

The laboratory’s research program is broadly focussed on microbial glycosylation with this position aiming to explore the function of the glycoproteome in Burkholderia cenocepacia. It will involve CRISPRi screening, genetic manipulation, phenotypic assays and quantitative proteomics . This work is intended to improve our understanding of the roles of O-linked glycosylation in Burkholderia cenocepacia physiology and virulence.

The successful applicant will work as part of a team both within and beyond the Doherty Institute. The successful candidate will be expected to design, undertake, and interpret experiments, as well as to promote innovation and creativity within the group. The level of appointment is subject to qualifications, experience and academic achievement to date.
